Mississippi College and Hinds Community College have partnered together to create a greener Mississippi. Below are some guidelines on how to do your part.

Items that should be placed in recycling cans:

  • Plastic (Please empty liquids from containers prior to recycling)
  • Paper (Print paper, newspapers, textbooks, paper bags)
  • Cardboard (Break down boxes prior to recycling)
  • Aluminum Cans (Please empty containers prior to recycling)

Items that should not be placed in recycling cans:

  • Food products
  • Paper wrappers with food products on them
  • Styrofoam products
  • Transparencies
  • Tissue paper
  • Glass

Recycling bins around campus

You may place recyclable items directly into the large blue recycle container in your building and around campus. The large containers should have blueliners.

Housekeeping personnel will empty the large containers each week and place these blue bags on the curb outside each building. These bags will be picked up and delivered to the recycling trailer on campus.

Faculty involvement

Housekeeping personnel will continue to empty the trash containers in your offices, but will not empty the recycle containers in your offices.

Faculty and Staff members should monitor the use of recycling containers in offices and hallways, making sure inappropriate items are not placed in the recycle containers.

All papers with student identification information should be shredded.
Faculty and Staff members who want to participate will be given a blue recycling bin for individual office use. The recycle bin is small enough to fit in your office. Please contact Tom Williams at twilliams@mc.edu if you would like to have a bin for your office.

We recycle used toner cartridges. Please call x3844, or email twilliams@mc.edu, if you have used toner cartridges. The used cartridges will be picked up at your office.
