你好!Nihao! Students will study at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) in Chungli, Taiwan. CYCU has a state-of-the-art Mandarin Chinese Language Center. 加入我們吧!Come Join Us!

When is the program offered?

Students can study at CYCU for either summer 3 months (11 weeks), 5 months (spring and summer or fall semester), or 12 months. The SPRING Semester starts around the beginning of March and runs through early July. The FALL Semester starts in September and end in January.  Upon completion of courses, students can opt for extended travel time on the island before returning to the states.

When do students apply?

The deadline for students to apply for the following spring semester to study at CYCU is September 22 pending students have completed and passed a Chinese course at Mississippi College. The MLG 440 Practical Chinese class gives the basics needed for the language, prepares students for the Mandarin Chinese Language Center at CYCU, and directly ties into studies for a natural transition to campus. The deadline for the summer 11 weeks program is Nov 4, 2022

Who is eligible to participate?

All MC students are eligible pending they have completed A Chinese course at Mississippi College.

Are the course credits “MC credits” or do they transfer into MC?

Mississippi College is a “partner institution” with CYCU. This means that students enroll at MC and register as if they were taking courses on campus. The courses that they will actually take in Taiwan correspond to course numbers offered here. That way, students earn MC credit while learning abroad. There is no risk in losing credits through transferring hours.

Does the program include excursions to other cities?

Students will have the opportunity to engage with the local culture through school field trips and during their personal time. Located just a subway ride away from the capital city of Taipei there will certainly be no shortage of unique activities, food, and sightseeing. Every month, MC students will visit various local secondary schools to teach junior or senior high school students English.

Where do students live?

Students will live on campus in university dorm rooms. Check out this video for a guided tour! Introduction to Re-Cheng Dormitory in CYCU. 熱誠宿舍導覽

CYCU also offers a very modern and beautiful campus for students to enjoy. Take a look here! Daily Life in CYCU

How much does the program cost?

This program is sponsored by the Ministry of Education for MC students! The cost to study in Taiwan is very minimal. Monthly stipend of $900, which covers students’ tuition, fees, room and board, is awarded to MC students while studying at CYCU. A portion of the Grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also help subsidise students’ airfares.
