Dear MC family,
The health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority. We are actively monitoring the outbreak of respiratory illness COVID-19 caused by a new coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China in December.
There have been no cases of COVID-19 among our students, faculty, and staff on campus or among those studying abroad. Mississippi has no confirmed cases of COVID-19, and the state Department of Health evaluates the current risk to Mississippi residents as low.
Members of MC’s Emergency Operations Team, including a Coronavirus Working Group established in February, are actively monitoring developments. They are managing campus plans, resources, and responses. The group is regularly reviewing the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of State, and public health organizations.
Updates and a comprehensive set of resources can be found on a new webpage: mc.edu/coronavirus
This page serves as MC’s primary source of information about coronavirus prevention, FAQs, and links to public health resources. It also includes current information about the university’s actions and responses to the coronavirus.
Spring Break is next week. Students, faculty, and staff should carefully monitor the U.S. Department of State and the CDC travel advisories prior to and during any international travel, including next week. This is especially important as other countries affected by COVID-19 are implementing their own travel restrictions that are subject to change without notice and have the potential to impede return travel to the United States.
We know many members of our campus community are deeply concerned about family and friends in locations where the coronavirus has spread. Please know that the MC family supports and cares about you, and we are praying for the health of your loved ones.
It’s wise to prepare and protect ourselves against this coronavirus outbreak. At the same time, we can have peace knowing our future is safely in God’s hands.
