Mississippi College named 2026-27 Military Friendly®, Military Spouse Friendly® School

Mississippi College named 2026-27 Military Friendly®, Military Spouse Friendly® School

The Military Friendly® program has acknowledged Mississippi College’s ongoing support for its students who have served or are serving in the armed forces – and their family members – by awarding MC’s Military Friendly® Silver designation and its Military Spouse Friendly® status through the 2026-27 Military Friendly® cycle.

The institutional recognition identifies MC as a university with policies, programs and services that make enrollment and success easier for military-affiliated students, as well as scoring within 20 percent of the Top 10-ranked institutions in this category.

Teresa Hill, director of military and veteran student services at MC, said Military Friendly® Schools demonstrate success in helping veterans transition from the military to school and, ultimately, satisfying careers in the civilian world.

“MC’s military population exemplifies courage, leadership, tenacity, endurance and resilience,” Hill said. “Being rated a Military Friendly® School and a Military Spouse Friendly® School indicates that, through measurable standards, Mississippi College offers its military population an exceptional academic environment that aligns with its values.”

MC students with active or reservist military status are eligible, with limited program exceptions, for a reduced military rate of $250/hour for undergraduate or $375/hour for graduate pursuits and other potential educational benefits. MC is a participating Yellow Ribbon school that extends an additional $10,000 annual applicable tuition funding for Post 9-11 GI Bill beneficiaries.

Undergraduate and graduate students at MC who are seeking an emphasis in leadership and have two years remaining towards their degree can obtain an Air Force or Army second lieutenant officer commission through enrollment in the crosstown ROTC program agreement between MC and Jackson State University.

The Military Friendly® organization also rates MC as an outstanding educational destination for military spouses. Active service members can transfer their unused educational benefits to their spouses and dependents for use at MC. Veterans who are 100-percent disabled may be eligible for additional educational benefits for themselves through Vocational Rehabilitation Education benefits and their dependents or spouses with Dependent Education Assistance benefits.

MC also offers the My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Scholarship, a workforce development program providing up to $4,000 in tuition assistance for eligible military spouses to earn approved certificates, licenses or associate degrees.

To coincide with the University’s bicentennial, Hill said MC plans to open a Military and Veterans Center in fall 2026. “We optimistically look forward to offering even more as we continue placing emphasis on our military-friendly efforts and in turn, improving ways for military, veterans and their families to be a tangible, living fabric of life on MC’s campus.”

“Having a space on campus exclusively for our military population will allow them to connect with like-minded service members, spouses and dependents,” she said. “We envision this center becoming the pulse of activities, community awareness events and a hub of information and resources specifically for this worthy and exemplary student population.”

About 2,000 colleges and universities nationwide compete for the Military Friendly® designation. Ratings are based on both evaluations of publicly available data from federal agencies and responses from proprietary survey data gathered through the Military Friendly® survey data verification process. Areas of survey focus include student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
