General Mail Delivery

Every day we process numerous of pieces of incoming and outgoing mail. There are several things that your department can do to expedite your mail:

Make sure your mail is addressed properly.

Outgoing U.S. mail that requires postage can either be left for pickup with your campus mail or brought to Alumni Hall mailroom and placed in the assigned bins located on the front counter.

Letter-size mail does not have to be sealed, but the flaps should be sent flap down in the same direction.  This mail is sealed as it passes through the meter machine.

Envelopes larger than letter size, as well as all international mail, should be separated before it is placed in the bins or given to the student worker.

Personal mail must have pre-affixed postage to be sent out. Mississippi College does not cover the cost of personal postage for students or employees.  Stamps can be purchased in the mailroom at Alumni Hall.

Separate your mail into the following categories before it is picked up:

  • Domestic mail that requires postage
  • International mail that requires postage
  • Stamped mail
  • Interoffice mail

Only the following items may be mailed at the Library Rate when loaned or exchanged between schools, colleges, universities, public libraries, and museums:

  • Books
  • Bound volumes of academic thesis
  • Periodicals
  • Printed music

Interoffice Mail

This mail consists of loose or enveloped correspondence for delivery to an on-campus addressee. To ensure proper delivery, interoffice mail requires a full name and campus address, including department name and building. Check the Campus directory at https://bannerwf.mc  if you are unsure of an on-campus address. Interoffice mail with no address will be returned to the sender.

When addressing interoffice mail, please consider these suggestions:

Single sheet, non-confidential correspondence can be addressed directly on the sheet and mailed without an interoffice envelope. For confidential correspondence, we recommend that you use interoffice envelopes.  Plain envelopes or stationary may be used if they are clearly marked “interoffice mail”.  Cross out all previous names or markings.
