Dear Mississippi College students and families,
I hope this message finds you healthy and well as we continue to faithfully respond to the uncertainty of this major public health crisis.
I know that one of your most critical concerns is credits and refunds for unused room and board. On behalf of the many people at MC who have worked diligently through our decision-making process, I offer my sincere appreciation for your patience. This was a critical decision and we wanted to get it right.
The MC Board of Trustees has approved a plan that will provide students with prorated credits or refunds for the unused portion of their Spring 2020 room and board charges. These refunds will be based on a calculation that considered the dorm and meal daily rates, and the portion of these expenses that were covered by institutional discounts.
Approximately 1,400 students will receive a credit to their accounts, which, after being applied to any outstanding balance to the college, they may roll into the next academic year or request to receive as a refund. Students who choose to roll the credit into the next academic year will also receive an additional 10% incentive (based on the value of the refund) added to their student account for Fall 2020 charges. We believe this incentive will support and encourage students as they continue and complete their education.

Please note that the amount of the credit for each individual will vary. The refund formula accounts for factors such as the cost for the student’s specific residence hall room and meal plan, less any Mississippi College institutional funds that had been applied toward housing and meal costs.
I also want you to know that I am continually encouraged by the generosity of the MC family. Many members of our community have asked how they might help our students during this uncertain time.
I am pleased to announce that MC has created the MCares Fund for the purpose of supporting students in need. We are offering families the option of donating refunds to this newly-created fund. This fund will provide emergency support for current MC students hit hardest by the pandemic, including assistance with housing, food, and other support they need in order to continue their educations at Mississippi College. Thank you again for your patience and for the encouragement you’ve given us in these unusual times. We know that many of you have endured a lot of upheaval and loss in a short span of time, and we want you to know that we continue to pray for each of you. How to Direct your Refund
Every student must complete the refund form found online by April 30, 2020.
Check your student account to see if you received a refund and to see the amount of your refund.
Go to mc.edu/refunds2020 and complete the online form to let MC know how you wish to direct your refund.
