Mississippi College Nursing Graduate Embarks on India Mission Trip
Playing golf will help Mississippi College graduate Emily Younger reach the foothills of the Himalayas, her destination for a July mission trip to India.
Going to a remote area in a country of 1.18 billion people where fewer than 1 percent are Christian will be an enormous undertaking, says the former MC Lady Choctaws shooting guard from Ridgeland.
“It's a big challenge- it's close to China - a lot of Buddhists are there,” Younger says. “I'm excited to see what God has for me.”
A graduate of MC's School of Nursing in May, Younger is among eight members of Christlife Church of the Highlands in Ridgeland embarking on the July 15-29 journey to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to South Asia.
A June 25 golf tournament at Brookwood Byram Country Club is one of the ways to pay for the trip. Teams can sign up for a $200 entry fee the day of the event.
The daughter of Steve and Patty Younger, Emily has been on two Fellowship of Christian Athletes mission trips to serve the homeless in New York City. Soon after returning home, Emily travels to officer training school in Alabama as she pursues a job as an Air Force nurse. “Victories in Metro Jackson” magazine noted Younger's mission trip to India on its Facebook site this week.
A 22-year-old Madison Central High graduate, Younger is among dozens with Mississippi College connections taking mission trips this summer.
There are 27 MC missionaries who will serve in North America, Southeast Asia, Africa and other parts of the globe in June and July. Each year, MC's Baptist Student Union equips and sends students across the globe for the cause of Christ. There were 20 summer missionaries from MC in 2009.
Sports combined with a national ministry program for Mississippi College basketball player Eric Davis of Starkville. He recently joined other collegiate players from Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and Illinois on a mission trip to China with Sports Reach. The Americans won four of the five games against college hoops teams from China. Away from the court, they shared their faith with the Chinese athletes.
Sports Reach is a Christian sports ministry that uses sports to share Christ around the globe.
An MC junior and former West Union High student, Davis now travels to Fort Collins, Colorado to participate in the Colorado Project. It is a summer ministry program of Athletes in Action.
