It is the responsibility of each applicant to ensure that all necessary and required materials are received by the Department of Physician Assistant Studies prior to all stated deadlines. A student may contact the office of the Director of Admissions to verify which required items are still pending in the initial application process.
Admissions Requirements:
- Completed application—A completed application containing all requested information must be submitted through the Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).
- Transcripts—Official transcripts from all previous undergraduate and postgraduate work must be received by CASPA. It is the responsibility of the applicant to request and verify that all transcripts have been requested and sent. Your official transcripts of all collegiate coursework and your standardized test forms should be sent directly from your previous institutions to the Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA). Admission decisions will not be made without official transcripts, test scores and the items listed above.
- Required Minimum GPA—An overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all work and an average science (biology, chemistry, and physics) GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Grades below a C in any of the prerequisite courses will not be accepted and all prerequisite courses must have been completed no more than 10 years prior to matriculation at an U.S.-accredited University or College. The applicant has the option to retake any class that doesn’t meet the minimum GPA requirements. The new score will be averaged into prerequisite GPA calculations. With the exception of statistics, online courses will not be accepted to fulfill prerequisite requirements.
- Reference letters—Three letters of reference should be requested by the applicant and sent to CASPA. At the minimum, the letters should include at least one reference from a clinician with personal knowledge of the applicant’s character and work habits. References from personal acquaintances, personal healthcare providers, and/or friends are generally not looked upon as being beneficial to an applicant's credentials.
- GRE—GRE scores in verbal, quantitative, and writing areas should be sent directly to the MC' Department of Physician Assistant Studies through CASPA. The school code in #0598.
- Clinical Experience—Documentation of clinical experience by the applicant should be submitted directly to CASPA. Strong patient contact experience is encouraged, but all patient care experience will be considered.
- TOEFL—International students who are not US citizens must meet all University and Program requirements for admission to the Program. In addition, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score (79) must meet minimum Program requirements for competency.
Because of the volume of applicants anticipated each year, it is the responsibility of each potential student to ensure that all documentation and materials are received. No interviews will be granted until the application packet is complete.
