Registration Restrictions
Some courses have registration restrictions built into BannerWeb. If you try to register for a course that meets one of these conditions, you will see a message explaining why your registration can't be completed. Select the common message below to learn what it means and what to do. Your academic department can help you determine your next step.
Certain undergraduate core science courses cannot be taken together. You may have completed one course in a restricted pair and are attempting to register for the other. Talk with your advisor to see if an exception is needed for your program. The department can assist you in requesting an override from the registrar’s office.
You need to complete a required course before taking this one. Check prerequisites using these instructions. If you haven’t taken the required course(s), register for those first. Overrides are rare.
You're trying to repeat a course that usually can’t be retaken. You must either take an alternative course or request to repeat the course by completing a Request to Repeat a Course form. If you're in Education, Nursing, or Social Work and earned a grade below the required one, contact your advisor for assistance.
The course is limited based on student attributes, such as being online only. Confirm your eligibility. If eligible, contact the department to request an override. If not eligible, select another course. MC7 students must contact their advisor.
The class is full and no more seats are available. Contact the department to ask if the capacity can be increased. Otherwise, register for a different section or course.
Class times overlap on your schedule. If there’s a minimal time overlap (e.g., one ends and another starts at the same time), contact your department for approval. Otherwise, choose another class.
You’re already enrolled in another section of the same course. If this is not your mistake, contact the department for approval.
The course must be taken with another course at the same time. Register for both courses together. If not possible, ask your advisor for an exception or choose a different course.
The course is restricted to a specific classification (e.g., seniors only). If qualified, request permission from the department. If not, choose a different course appropriate to your classification.
The course is limited to students in a specific major. If you're not in the required major, request departmental permission or choose a different course.
The course is restricted to students in a specific minor. If your minor doesn’t match, request departmental permission or register for a different course.
