Masters of Arts in History program is designed to prepare elementary and secondary teachers with a broader and deeper historical understanding and to provide the graduate foundation for students who plan to teach on the community college level or pursue the doctorate in history or related disciplines for university teaching or research purposes. A minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate work, including 6 hours of thesis, is required.

  Candidates for the MA in History must take written and oral comprehensive examinations based upon course work used to satisfy degree requirements. The oral exam will also include a defense of the thesis. If judged unsatisfactory, all or part of the written and/or oral examination may be retaken once in the following semester or summer term.
