Student Traditions

Student Traditions play such an important part of campus life at Mississippi College!

Student Traditions

Student Traditions are such an important part of the student experience at MC! Whether it's student productions like Follies or a favorite spring event like Crawfish Boil, our traditions are what make us who we are at Mississippi College. Our Student Traditions Committees are an awesome way for students to contribute to campus life and serve MC.

Homecoming Committee

The student Homecoming Committee plans a variety of events and activities during Homecoming Week for the student body. Homecoming Week is one of the most exciting times on campus as MC celebrates and welcomes alumni and friends back to campus. Homecoming events include Choctaw Cheer-Off, Homecoming Parade, Court presentation and more.

Student Productions Committee

The Student Productions Committee are the behind-the-scenes team for both Follies and Swerve. Whether it's running the curtain or offering advice to participating groups, the Student Productions Committee is a great way for students to get involved if they have a passion for music, dance, theater and productions.

Lighting of the Quad

The Lighting of the Quad Committee plans our annual student event for the Christmas season at Mississippi College. Past Lighting of the Quads have included lots of lights, holiday crafts, the Christmas story, music, snacks and more! Lighting of the Quad 2023 will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Applications for the Lighting of the Quad Committee will open in fall 2023.

Spring Fever Week & Farewell Week

Spring Fever Week includes a variety of events held each spring which highlight warmer weather and the spring season arriving on campus. Spring Fever Week includes MC's annual Crawfish Boil and other fun events which allow students to relax and enjoy a beautiful season on campus. Spring Fever Week 2024 will be held March 23-28.

Farewell Week is held during the last full week of class in the spring semester. Events highlight the end of the semester, as well as the end of college for our graduating seniors.

Homecoming

The Office of Student Engagement plans many of the student events which happen during Homecoming Week each fall, including several that are favorite campus gtraditions! These include the Homecoming parade, presentation of the Homecoming court, Choctaw Cheer-Off and more!

Don't miss any of the Homecoming Events planned for Homecoming 2023!

Student Homecoming Events 2023

Choctaw Cheer-Off

The Choctaw Cheer-Off takes place each year on the caf patio during Homecoming week. The clubs and tribes perform cheers showing off their MC spirit and competing for third, second and first place in the competition. This event is very popular for MC students to attend. Hundreds of students gather to watch while enjoying dinner outdoors!

Follies Viewing Party

The Follies Viewing Party, held on Friday night after the final performance of Follies is always a student favorite. Follies performers are able to finally sit back and enjoy watching the other Follies skits!

Float Building

Groups participating in the Homecoming Parade stay up on Friday night to build their Homecoming Parade floats. This is always a fun time for students to bond as they work hard to put together a parade-worthy float for the next day!

Homecoming Parade

The Homecoming Parade is a student and alumni favorite. Campus organizations, groups and departments are able to participate in the annual parade which passes down College Street on the afternoon of Homecoming Saturday. The parade also features members of the Homecoming Court as well as winners of MC's annual alumni awards. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and members of the Clinton community show up to enjoy the parade each year.

Homecoming Court Presentation

The Homecoming Court is presented during halftime of the Homecoming football game. Homecoming maids and the Homecoming Queen are elected by the student body and formally presented during the halftime presentation. Students and fans cheer on the queen as she rules over Homecoming each year!

Follies

Follies is one of MC's most loved traditions! It is an exciting show featuring groups of Mississippi College students, traditionally from clubs and tribes. Each show includes singing, acting and dancing. Follies has been a tradition on campus for over 30 years, and many alumni have performed in Follies Productions on the stage of Swor Auditorium!
