Incoming education major transfer students can earn a full scholarship to MC.
MC is awarding eight scholarships funded by a new grant focused on creating excellence in the field of education in Mississippi. The eight winners of this competition will be chosen according to their responses to the criteria below and will each be awarded a $25,000 grant in addition to their other merit scholarships, making this an opportunity for a full-ride scholarship package you do not want to miss!

In order to compete in the Excellence in Education Scholarship competition, you need to meet these qualifications:
- Be a transfer student with junior-level credit hours upon arrival at MC
- Be pursuing an education major with a licensure: Art Education, English Education, Math Education, Music Education, Physical Education, Social Studies Education, or Elementary Education
- Have a transfer GPA of 3.0 or above upon arrival at MC
- Submit the FAFSA to MC and have an SAI of less than 20,000
- Commit to participation in a 4-semester MC cohort for Excellence in Education grant recipients
- Commit to teaching in Mississippi for at least 2 years after graduation

Essay Prompt:
This scholarship will be awarded to high-performing students who commit to teaching in the state of Mississippi for a minimum of two years upon graduation. The commitment to teach in MS represents an investment in the future of education in our state. Applicants are encouraged to thoughtfully reflect on their calling and to be specific in describing their connection to Mississippi and their commitment to teaching within the state.
In your essay, address the following:
- Describe your motivation for becoming an educator and explain how your background, values, and experiences have prepared you to serve the students and communities of Mississippi.
- Explain how receiving this scholarship will support your preparation as an educator and how you intend to honor this investment through dedicated service in Mississippi schools following graduation.
Essay requirements:
- 500-750 word count
- 12-point font
- double spaced
- 1-inch margins
Important dates
All items must be submitted BEFORE you can interview. Once candidates have registered and submitted required items, they will be contacted to schedule their interview with the School of Education at a mutually agreed upon date and time. Interviews will take place on campus.
