Online Instruction and Design Program
The Online Instruction and Design K-12 program is designed for students who are seeking training and preparation in developing, teaching, managing, and assessing effective online instruction in today’s K-12 schools by studying learning theories, instructional strategies, technology, and best practices for application in the virtual classroom. The program further prepares students to support diverse, online learners through differentiated instructional practices while equipping participants with the necessary leadership tools to administer and support online instructional programs at the school or district level.
Certificate in Online Instruction (K-12) (12 sem. hrs.)
Due to the current pandemic, educators must become versed in online instructional delivery and design to meet the current needs of K-12 learners. The Online Instruction K-12 certification program is designed for students who are seeking training and preparation in developing, teaching, managing, and assessing effective online instruction in today’s K-12 schools by studying learning theories, instructional strategies, technology, and best practices for application in the virtual classroom. This program is currently pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
- EDU 6401—Foundations of Online Instruction: Theory & Practice (3 hours)
- EDU 6402—Development & Assessment for Online Instruction (3 hours)
- EDU 6403—Management & Resources for Online Instruction (3 hours)
- EDU 6404—Differentiation Strategies for Online Instruction (3 hours)
Total (12 Semester Hours)
- Class A standard, educator license issued by a state department of education or a recognized state agency.
- Transcripts from an accredited university showing an earned degree in a K-12 education field.
- Students are expected to maintain a 3.0 quality point average.
The four classes needed to earn a graduate certificate from Mississippi College will be offered during the Summer of 2021, and again on a rotating basis in the Fall of 2021 and Spring of 2022 and Summer of 2022.
Tuition Assistance
Tution Assistance is available from GEER grant funding for a limited number of Mississippi educators to complete the four certification classes in the Online Instruction and Design program. Students are responsible for applicable University fees.

Master’s Degree in Online Instruction and Design
The Master’s of Education degree program was designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to create and conduct opportunities for current educators to enhance and improve their online teaching skillset, specifically to assist with the K-12 academic needs from the pandemic. The program is supported by funding from a GEER grant. This degree program includes a 30-hour Master of Education in Online Instruction (K-12) program and a 12-hour certificate program in Online Instruction. Courses will be offered in both online and face-to-face delivery formats. This program is currently pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

*This self-paced orientation course is required for all students during their first term of enrollment in the Master's program. The online course will guide students through program specific topics providing a foundational introduction to the online program.
- Must have completed a teacher education program from an accredited university and/or must have earned a Class A standard, educator license issued by a state department of education or a recognized state agency.
- Must have at least twelve semester hours of undergraduate courses in education and psychology.
- Must have met or surpassed the acceptable score for Mississippi on the Praxis II Specialty Test or appropriate state licensing tests where teaching license was issued.
- Must maintain a 3.0 quality point average.
