About Me
Craig Young is the Director of Band Activities and head of the Instrumental Music Department at Mississippi College, where he conducts the Symphonic Winds, directs the Choctaw Pep Band, and guides all aspects of the MC Band Program. Dr. Young also teaches classes in both undergraduate and graduate instrumental conducting, instrumental methods, wind repertoire, woodwind methods, and studio saxophone.
In addition to his responsibilities at Mississippi College, Dr. Young is Founder and Conductor of the Mississippi Wind Symphony. The MSWS is an ensemble formed in 2001 and is made up of many of the leading wind and percussion instrumentalists from the Mississippi area. The MSWS presents a Summer Concert Series every year and is regularly heard on Mississippi Public Radio.
Besides receiving numerous awards for his performances on the saxophone, Dr. Young has been featured soloist with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Orchestra, has been featured in a Delos recording of Alan Hovhaness' wind music with conductor Keith Brion, has performed as a member of the Black Swamp Saxophone Quartet, and was honored by being invited to compete at the 1st International Adolphe Sax Competition in Dinant, Belgium in 1994. Dr. Young has also performed with the Mississippi Symphony, Lancaster Festival Orchestra, and the Ohio Valley Symphony, among others.
Dr. Young has visited 46 different states and several countries through his various musical activities.
