Professor, Christian Studies and Philosophy
I am glad to introduce myself to you through this website. Please note that all course material (syllabi, study guides, course assignments, etc) can be found on MC Moodle (access information is found below). Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance to you.
The best way to get in touch with me is through texting or calling my cell phone anytime from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm at 601.473.4735. If you get my voice mail that means I am in class or a meeting, so please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Since 1992 I have served as the department's primary Ministry Studies professor teaching applied theology courses on the Ministry of the Church, Church Leadership, Church Administration, Faith Development, Essentials for Ministry, and Christian Formation. Because of the diverse portfolio of classes assigned to me, I have limited my biblical courses to the study of the New Testament.
I consider Kentucky to be my home state and earned degrees from the University of Kentucky (BA, 1976) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (MRE, 1978: EdD, 1985).
Prior to coming to MC I served as an academic administrator working with the SBC seminaries for six years (1979-85) and for seven years I served on the staff of First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas (1985-92). In addition to my teaching responsibilities, from 2001-2003 I also served MC as the Director of Continuing Education.
I have had the privilege of leading conferences and preaching in a wide variety of settings and churches throughout Mississippi.
My wife, Dr. Terrie Johnson, and I have been married 42 years in June, have three adult children and this August, six grandchildren.
