Assistant Professor - Music
Nicholas Perna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music. He joined MC’s faculty in 2015 and currently teaches Vocal Pedagogy I and II, Music Research and Writing, and Voice Repertoire for the Applied Studio, among many others. Voice Pedagogy and Science, and the songs of Benjamin Britten are his areas of expertise. Research published and presented nationally and internationally include topics on the acoustics of the singing voice, nasality of the singing voice, and laryngeal manipulation in vocal warm-up routine. Along with Dr. Mandy Spivak, they created the Comprehensive Britten Song Database, an open source pedagogic guide.
In the Fall of 2017, Professor Perna's graduate students, with his support, launched the first MC-related podcast called VocalFri. The podcast focuses on voice pedagogy, science, and popular nerd culture.
